Once in a while I wake with an idea! Weather it is a challenging recipe or something related to photography it always bugs me until I give birth to it by letting my imagination do the work. This time I had this crazy idea that I needed to organize a bridal shoot. Well, crazy or not, I pushed myself to make it real! By the end of the photo shoot I found out that I can cut my own hair, fix my model’s hair and do her make up!
Despite many challenges we have had while preparing for this photo shoot, we were able to pull it off in less than a week, thanks to the amazing vendors of Colorado. The aim was to achieve a very classical concept with chateau feel to it.
We couldn’t possibly do much without a dress. Although I had this another crazy idea of wrapping my bride with white curtains and pretend that it was a wedding gown! No, really! Have you seen that dress made out of a toilet paper? No kidding, some famous designer took on a task on making a dress out of toilet paper. So, making a dress out of curtains didn’t seem like a bad idea to me. Later I decided to keep that idea for future projects and went on looking for a real dress. My very good friend Mia Voss introduced to me Breanna of Anna Be Bridal Boutique, who agreed to give me one of her new Monique Lhuillier gowns. I died! Considering that I was picking the dress up the morning of the photo shoot I couldn’t afford laying there dead. So, I decided to get up and make the photo shoot happen.
My bride-my best friend Olya is a biology major, you know. She had nothing to do with modeling or wanting to be a model. The power of friendship is a bomb
It empowered her to be my model for the shoot and I couldn’t have been any happier that I talked her in for working with us.
While we were planning to take pictures outdoors, the day turned out to be very windy and cloudy with a high chance of rain. I started panicking. If I didn’t really die at Anna Be’s now was the time to do so when the weather went berserk on me. My dear husband of course had a plan B. Good to have a supportive husband on your side, I will tell you! We quickly contacted the closest hotel – DoubleTree Denver Tech Center to see if they could accommodate us. Without much delay, the hotel management kindly gave us permission to shoot in their premises. The hotel turned out to be perfect for our photo shoot and the PI Restaurant where we shot the majority of the images was absolutely beautiful – certainly a nice place for weddings. Brides, keep that in mind!
We had to cancel many details we were counting on since we only could use them outdoors. But I decided not to disclose the nature of our accessories to you now, since they are going to be part of my crazy ideas to come![]()
Nilufer (Splendor Your Guests) my dear friend, provided beautiful shawls for our bride and we also wrapped them over mahogany chairs provided by All Well Rents to pull all the colors together. The beautiful guest cards were provided by Julie Sandusky of JS Designs custom designs matching our cherry, cream and gold colors. Oh, how I adore thee. With the collaboration of such a great team and their hard work, I believe we all did a great job.
One of my favorite flower shop owners, Julia Kaaren (Mulberries flowers ), offered her help with designing flowers for our photo shoot on such a short notice. When I saw the bridal bouquet and the center piece, I was speechless of how pretty they were.
Rachael of Intricate Icings provided us with a stunning cake which was very cohesive with our target design.
One special person was with me for the entire time that week. My amazing little sister Kamola went through fire and water for me to get everything done. She helped me to pull the design together and kept (still keeping) my sanity together, too! I have so much to tell her, but instead I prefer to simply hug her tight to let her know I adore her endlessly for being there for me.
Since we were indoors and the room was very dark with no windows, we had to use our strobes but at the same time we wanted to keep the chateau feel.
I couldn’t find a make up artist and a hair person to work on our model. Well, I said to myself, how hard could it be? Later, to make myself feel better I cut my own hair short, too. Now I think I did it to show myself that if I could fix Olya’s hair and make up I could confidently cut my own hair. Since I still have my self inflicted hair cut, I consider it my personal success!
For the next time I am really planning on working with a wedding planner, who could help me to work on a design, help me find details or better yet I really need someone who could do the inspiration part and I could shoot away! If any wedding planner who is seeing this post is interested with working with me on a project like this, please holler!
I would be eternally grateful!
Love,
Lola
